He attended workshops in New York at TVI Studios and trained with independent coaches. In addition, Joel studied and took workshops while living in Hollywood, CA. His one man show, "Hollywood's Lost Child, It Ain't Easy being Godly gave him a great opportunity to use his skills. He wrote, co-directed, and produced his first play. He performed it at Housatonic theater in Connecticut and in New York at the One Act Festival. He's also won the best actor award at the Smithfield One Act Festival in Virginia in August 2013. A remake of Othello, "MyOthello," through Americorps, which he urbanized the production by switching around the set, wardrobe, and some of the language in the script, landed Joel's Directorial Debut summer 2011. The motive behind this remake was so that today's youth could understand and relate to Othello. Joel always gives all the praise and glory to God and thanks Him for all the blessings He has given him.
