Privacy Policy
SceneHelix is a local-first television and movie companion. Its core library works without a SceneHelix Community account, connected service, or developer-hosted copy of your viewing history.
Information SceneHelix stores
Your library, followed people, watched episodes, viewing progress, ratings, lists, streaming-service preferences, notification preferences, and other app settings are stored on your device. Except for optional services you explicitly enable, SceneHelix does not upload this information to a developer-owned database.
Optional iCloud sync
If you enable iCloud sync, the app stores compact library, status, progress, rating, list, and removal documents in your private CloudKit database so they can sync across devices signed in to your Apple Account. Apple operates iCloud and CloudKit under Apple’s privacy terms. SceneHelix’s developer cannot browse your private CloudKit records.
Optional SIMKL connection
If you connect SIMKL, SceneHelix can import your SIMKL library and watch history and, if automatic or manual two-way sync is enabled, send statuses, history, ratings, and confirmed removals directly to SIMKL. SceneHelix may also use SIMKL as an optional source for an exact airtime when TMDB does not provide one. SIMKL is never required for the local app or iCloud sync, and you can disconnect it in Connected Services. SIMKL’s privacy terms apply to information processed by SIMKL.
Optional SceneHelix Community and Helix Pulse
Community uses Sign in with Apple and Supabase for an optional profile, leaderboard identity, Helix Pulse participation, movie and episode comments, and Community rating averages. If you enable leaderboard visibility, the public projection is limited to your handle, preset avatar and frame, aggregate SceneHelix Scores, completed-title count, rank, tier, streak, and up to three showcased achievement badges. Opening comments sends only the public movie identifier, or the show identifier, season, and episode number. Posting sends your comment, spoiler flag, and chosen Community identity. Helix Pulse stores messages you submit, basic room activity, reports, moderation actions, and identifiers needed for blocking and abuse prevention. Other participants can see your public handle, avatar, and submitted messages. Your library titles, lists, watch history, iCloud data, SIMKL credentials, and connected-service payloads are not published to Helix Pulse or the leaderboard.
Comments and Community ratings
Movie and episode comments are public under your chosen Community identity and remain with that title until you delete them or moderation removes them; replies from other members may remain after your text is deleted. Ratings you give while joined contribute privately to Helix averages using the public TMDB movie, show, or episode identity. Everyone can see only the average and rating count. Individual ratings and member identities are not exposed.
Helix AI
On supported devices, Helix AI can answer entertainment questions using Apple’s on-device intelligence, and those questions remain on your device. An optional cloud fallback is off by default and only operates after you enable it. When enabled, SceneHelix sends your question and a limited list of candidate movie or television titles through a SceneHelix Supabase function to OpenAI to generate a response. Candidate context can include watch status, favorites, and your personal rating. Requests do not include private list names, notes, iCloud records, or SIMKL credentials. Anything typed into your question is included; avoid entering private information. SceneHelix does not store the question, candidate titles, or generated answer. Limited operational records, such as request timestamps and token counts, may be retained to operate and protect the service. You can disable cloud fallback at any time in Helix.
Community safety and moderation
Helix Pulse and title comments provide in-app controls to report content and block participants. SceneHelix may review reported content and associated account and message information, limit abusive activity, remove content, suspend participation, or take other reasonable action to protect the service and its users.
Optional published lists
Your lists remain private unless you choose to publish them. Published lists are stored by SceneHelix Community and can be viewed by other users. They include your public Community identity, list name and description, and the ordered titles, years, and TMDB catalogue identifiers you choose to share. Artwork comes from public catalogue metadata. Adding or removing titles updates the published list automatically. SceneHelix stores which public lists your Community account follows to show them in your Library. Publishing a list does not publish your watch status, personal ratings, favorites, notes, viewing history, or private iCloud records. You can unpublish a list or delete your Community account from the app.
Movie and television information
SceneHelix requests movie and television metadata, artwork, cast information, reviews, recommendations, release information, and streaming availability from TMDB. Requests can include the title or TMDB identifier being viewed, your selected content region, and ordinary network information necessary to deliver the service. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
Upcoming events and location
Events uses Ticketmaster’s event listings and ticket links. If you allow location access, SceneHelix rounds your coordinates to an approximate area and stores that area on your device. When you browse nearby events, it sends the approximate area through a SceneHelix Supabase function to Ticketmaster to find events. The function may temporarily cache event results by approximate area for up to 15 minutes. You can choose a city instead of sharing your location. Your selected city, date range, and event category may be sent for the search. Opening an event or ticket link shows Ticketmaster content, which is governed by Ticketmaster’s privacy terms.
Notifications, widgets, Live Activities, and Apple Watch
If you allow notifications, SceneHelix schedules release reminders on your device. Widgets, Live Activities, the app badge, and Apple Watch surfaces use the minimum app data needed to display your upcoming and unwatched items through Apple’s system technologies. You can change permissions or remove these surfaces through Apple’s controls.
Advertising, tracking, and website analytics
The SceneHelix app does not display advertising, sell personal information, or use your library to track you across other companies’ apps or websites. The SceneHelix website uses Google Tag Manager to deliver configured measurement tags; those services may receive ordinary web request and usage information under their own privacy terms.
Retention and deletion
On-device information remains until you remove it in SceneHelix or delete the app. Synced information may remain with an optional service until you use that service’s deletion controls, disconnect it, or remove the relevant data. SceneHelix includes data-management controls for local and iCloud information. You can disable leaderboard visibility independently or delete your Community account from the app; account deletion removes the associated Community profile and participation data according to the service’s deletion process without deleting your local library.
Children
SceneHelix is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as SceneHelix evolves. The effective date at the top of this page identifies the latest revision.
